Analyze Light page

Plot light intensity versus wavelength for emission spectra.

Note

Analyzing emission spectra with the Wireless Spectrometer requires the Fiber Optic Cable.

  1. Data run selector

A new data run appears every time data is recorded. Click to select the data run you want to display. To rename a run, select the run and click Rename. To delete a run, select the run and click Remove.

  2. Integration Time

Integration Time is analogous to the shutter speed of a camera. A higher integration time allow the spectrometer to collect more light, which is useful for less intense light sources. After aligning the fiber optics probe with the light source, click Auto Set to automatically set the integration time.

  3. Number of Scans to Average

This property specifies the number of discrete acquisitions that are collected and averaged before displaying and recording a spectrum or data point. A higher the value results in a better signal-to-noise ratio, making a weak peak signal more visible. Drag the slider to increase or decrease the number of scans.

  4. Smoothing

This tool uses a Savitzky-Golay filter to smooth the data. Drag the slider to increase or decrease the smoothing. To prevent unwanted changes, Smoothing can be locked by clicking Unlocked.

  5. Record

Click to begin data recording. Click Stop to keep the displayed data.

  6. Calibrate Wavelength tool

This tool shifts the data by a specified number of nanometers in order to remove errors from measurement.

  7. Scale to fit

Click to automatically scale the axes so that all data is visible in the graph.

    Tip

You can also scale the graph manually by clicking and dragging the axes or plot area.

  8. Coordinates tool

Click to add the tool to the graph. Drag the tool to a data point to view the coordinates of that point.

  9. Annotation tool

Click to add a note in the graph. The tool can be attached to a data point by dragging the tool to the point. Click the annotation box to enter text.

  10. Comparison Mode

Click to show all runs on the graph simultaneously. Click again to only show one run.

  11. Color spectrum background

Click to show or hide the color spectrum behind the data.

  12. Reference spectra

Click and select an element to add reference lines for that element to compare to collected data. Click the arrows to navigate between the previous reference and next reference .
