D2L Brightspace

When properly configured, the D2L Brightspace learning management system allows you to import content from PASCO Portal directly into a Brightspace course. This process requires Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) integration using LTI 1.3. Before teachers in your organization can perform this process, you must register an external tool and create a Deployment for Portal on Brightspace.

Prerequisites

Before setting up LTI 1.3 on D2L Brightspace, you will need a set of URLs which will be provided on PASCO Portal or by the PASCO Portal admin or customer support. The following URLs are required to set up and configure LTI 1.3 on Brightspace:

  • LTI URL
  • Authentication Request URL
  • Public KeySet URL
  • Redirection URL
  • Deeplinking URL

Register an external tool

  1. In the main D2L Brightspace menu, select the gear icon, then select Manage Extensibility.

  2. Select the LTI Advantage tab, then select Register Tool to register a new external LTI tool.

  3. Select the Standard option.

  4. Enable the tool, then enter the following details using the information provided by the PASCO Portal admin.

    • Name: Enter an appropriate name, such as "PASCO Portal".
    • Description: Enter an appropriate description.
    • Domain: Enter "https://portal.pasco.com/".
    • Redirect URLs: Enter the Redirection URL and the Deeplinking URL, as provided by the Portal admin.

      Note

You will need to select + Add Redirect URL to create a box for the second URL.

    • OpenID Connect Login URL: Enter the Authentication Request URL provided by the PASCO admin.

    • Target Link URI: Enter the Deeplinking URL provided by the Portal admin.
    • Keyset URL: Enter the Public KeySet URL provided by the Portal admin.
    • Extensions: Select the Deep Linking option.
    • Roles: Select the Send Institution Role option.

      Note

Make sure to copy and paste the provided URLs exactly as is. Any modifications to the information may cause problems with content sharing via LTI.

Once all of the information is added, select Register to finish creating the new tool.

  5. Share the following information with the PASCO Portal admin:

    • Your Client ID
    • Your Brightspace Keyset URL
    • Your Brightspace OAuth2 Access Token URL
    • Your OpenID Connect Authentication Endpoint
    • Your Issuer URL

    Tip

If desired, you can select the View Deployments button to immediately begin creating a new Deployment, skipping Step 1 of the next section.

Once the tool is created, it will appear in the list of tools in the LTI Advantage tab from Step 2.

Create a Deployment Tool

Once you have created an external tool for PASCO Portal, you will need to create a Deployment for the tool. To do so:

  1. In the main D2L Brightspace menu, select the gear icon, then select External Learning Tools.

  2. In the LTI Advantage tab, select New Deployment.

  3. Enable the Deployment, then select the external tool you created in the previous section from the Tool dropdown.

  4. Enter the following details:

    • Name: Enter an appropriate name for the Deployment.
    • Description: Enter an appropriate description.
    • Extensions: Select "Deep Linking".
    • Security Settings: Select "Email" under the User Information section.
    • Configuration Settings: Select "Open as External Resource".

  5. Select Add Org Units, then select the courses where the tool will be available to share Portal content.

  6. Verify that all information is correct, then select Create Deployment.

  7. Upon successful creation, you will be shown the Deployment ID. Select View Links to navigate to the Links page.

    Note

You can also access this page from the Deployment tool's details page.

  8. Select New Link.

  9. Enable the link, then enter the following details:

    • Name: Enter an appropriate name for the link.
    • URL: Enter the Deeplinking URL provided by the Portal admin.
    • Description: Enter an appropriate description.
    • Type: Select Deep Linking Quicklink from the dropdown box. If desired, enter values into the Width and Height boxes to set the content selection window size.

  10. Verify that all information has been added correctly, then select Save and Close to add the link to the Deployment tool.

The link will now be displayed in the list.
