Video and animation
The Essential Physics eBook contains videos and animations covering a range of topics from linear and harmonic motion (page 390) to the phases of matter (page 671) to the first steam engine (page 732). These videos are helpful for illustrating concepts which are easiest to learn through moving representations. You can easily find videos and animations in either of the following ways:
- To view a list of links to all videos and animations in the textbook, click Video in the home screen.
- To view a list of links to all videos and animations in a given chapter, navigate to a page in that chapter and click Video in the page navigation bar.
The animations will initially appear to be static illustrations on the page where they appear, and can be identified by the gray "play" icon present on the image, as shown below. To play the animation, click or mouse over the animation. To minimize distraction while reading, animations only play when clicked or moused-over.
Note
An animation should restart after playing once. If it does not, refresh the page in the browser.
Unlike animations, videos are not embedded directly into the text. Instead, click the Video button on a page where it appears to play the associated video, as shown below.
