Search, Index, and Glossary
The Essential Chemistry eBook features two ways to search for content within its text: the Search function, and the Index and Glossary.
Search
Clicking the Search icon in the page navigation bar brings up an interactive search display. This display will create an alphabetized list of results as you type, with each entry being a clickable link to a page containing content relevant to your search, as shown below. When necessary, a scroll bar will appear to the right of the results.
Index and Glossary
When selected in the page navigation bar, the Appendix icon opens a menu that includes links to the Appendix, Glossary, Index, and Standards, as shown below.
- The Glossary contains definitions of various terms throughout the books in both English and Spanish. Upon clicking on a glossary term, you will be taken to the place in the text where that term is first introduced.
- The Index contains a list of topics discussed throughout the book, including links to relevant pages. Upon clicking on an Index link, you will be taken to the corresponding page in the eBook.
The other links in this section do not allow you to directly search for content. Rather, the Appendix contains reference tables for various chemistry concepts, such as a list of common ions by charge and a table of metric prefixes, while the Standards link opens an external web page highlighting the specific science standards met by each section of the book.
Note
Paragraphs containing content found through the Index, Glossary, or Search functions are highlighted in yellow.
