Use table analysis tools

Analyze data using the tools available on the table page.

The following sections will demonstrate the various tools which can be used to analyze data on the table page.

Note

The following tools are also available on the graph and table page.

Add a column

To add a column to the table page, select the Add Column tool in the Table toolbar on the left. The new column will automatically be created on the far right of the display, and the width of the existing columns will be adjusted so that all columns have equal width.

Tip

Chemvue can support a maximum of five columns in a single display. When this number of columns is reached, the Add Column button will be grayed out to indicate that no more columns can be added.

Remove a column

To remove a column from the table:

  1. Select the header of the column you wish to delete. This should cause the header to darken, indicating it is selected.
  2. Select the Remove Column tool on the table toolbar.

Show statistics of a run

Various statistics about the currently selected run of data can be calculated and shown at the bottom of the Table display. To make this data visible, select the Statistics tool in the toolbar, then select the boxes next to the names of the statistics you wish to display. This will cause the chosen statistics to appear in new rows at the bottom of the table. Rather than having a numerical index, these rows will have symbols associated with the corresponding statistic.

Table Statistics

The statistics available in the Table display, along with their corresponding labels, are given by the table below.

Statistic Label Description
Minimum Min. The lowest value of any data point in the selected run.
Maximum Max. The highest value of any data point in the selected run.
Average Mean The average value of all data points on the selected run.
Standard deviation σ The range above and below the average that would capture 68% of your data set.
Count n The total number of data points on the selected run.

Delete or exclude data points

The Exclude or Delete Data tool allows you to temporarily exclude individual data points from analysis, or to permanently remove them from the table. To do so:

  1. Select the Enable Range Selection tool.
  2. Select all cells in the table that you wish to exclude or delete. You can either select a single cell by clicking directly on it or click and drag across a range of cells to select all cells in that range.
  3. Select Exclude or Delete Data , then select Exclude Selected Data to exclude the selected points from analysis or Delete Selected Data to permanently delete the selected points from the table.

The Exclude or Delete Data tool also provides two additional options. Restore Excluded Data within Selection will cause any excluded points within the selected range to be restored and included in analysis. Delete Excluded Data within Selection will delete any points in the selected range that have previously been excluded, while leaving the non-excluded data points intact.

Note

Any data points which are excluded or deleted on the graph page will automatically also be deleted or excluded on the table page and vice versa.
