Remotely log data

Collect data directly on a Wireless Sensor instead of a computer.

Set up remote logging

  1. Click New Experiment to create a new Capstone file.
  2. Click Remote Logging.

  3. Power on the sensor, then click the sensor that matches the device ID.

  4. Configure remote data logging for each sensor:

    1. Select a sensor to configure from the menu.
    2. Set the sample rate using the up and down arrows.
    3. Deselect Sensor Enabled if you don't want to log data with this sensor. Deselect Common Sample Rate to set different sample rates for each sensor.

      Tip

Estimated Sampling Duration indicates the amount of time that the sensor can log data based on the current configuration. To increase the logging time:

      • Decrease the sample rate.
      • Disable unused sensors.
  5. Optional: Select Sensor Button Deferred Logging to start data logging by pressing the power button on the sensor.

  6. Click Start. Click OK when using Sensor Button Deferred Logging.

By default, data logging begins after you click Start. If using Sensor Button Deferred Logging, data logging begins after you press the power button on the sensor. The Bluetooth status light blinks yellow and green until data logging begins. When the sensor starts logging data, the Bluetooth status light blinks yellow.

Click OK and close Capstone. To stop data logging, turn off the sensor or connect it to Capstone to download the data.

Download remotely logged data

Download data remotely logged on a Wireless Sensor for data analysis. You can download the data to multiple devices as long as data isn't deleted from the sensor after downloading it.

  1. Click New Experiment to create a new Capstone file.
  2. Click Remote Logging.

  3. Turn on the sensor, or press the power button if the sensor is currently logging.

    Note

The sensor doesn't appear in the Remote Logging window if the Bluetooth status light is blinking yellow. Press the power button to make the sensor appear.

    Tip

If available, connect the sensor using USB to download data at a faster rate.

  4. Select the sensor under Sensors with data.

  5. In the Logged Data window, select Download Data.
  6. Select a destination to download the data:

    • Current experiment

Download the data to the current Capstone session. Select a display to view the data after clicking Download Data.

    • Existing file

Download the data to a previously saved Capstone file. Select the file after clicking Download Data.

    • Quick Start Experiment

Names of Quick Start Experiments appear if available for the connected sensor. Select a Quick Start Experiment, then click Download Data.

Note

It may take a few minutes to download the data depending on the amount of data logged.
